• Build from Engineer 2 into senior field service engineer or subject matter expert as you gain certification depth across multiple tool platforms. Branch into technical support, process/product engineering, or customer-facing technical account and program roles. Move toward team leadership, training or escalation-owner positions for key accounts.
• You perform on-site repair, preventive maintenance and installation/relocation start-up services on Lam's electro-mechanical and electronic systems inside customer fabs. You diagnose faults analytically and isolate issues down to the component level, then take corrective action to minimize tool downtime. You keep current through Lam training and certification, and maintain records and reports coordinating activities between Lam and the customer. You also act as Lam's technical face to the customer, transparently discussing tool status, risks and opportunities.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, diagrams and operation manuals — this is the core technical gate. Structured analytical troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex electro-mechanical systems, including isolating faults to component level. Physical readiness to work extended periods in a cleanroom with PPE, plus bending, climbing, squatting and standing for long stretches. English written/verbal communication, basic office software skills, and willingness to travel frequently and work shifts, overtime and on-call.

• This is a graduate-eligible, on-site field role — make it clear you accept cleanroom work, shifts, overtime, on-call and frequent travel. Research Lam's Customer Support Business Group and its product lines (etch, deposition, clean) so you can speak to the tool types you would service.
• Lead with hands-on equipment maintenance/repair experience — semiconductor, precision manufacturing or other electro-mechanical systems. Show cases where you read schematics and manuals to root-cause component-level faults

For physically or logistically demanding questions, answer concretely with real experience and practical arrangements rather than general enthusiasm.
• Walk us through a fault you diagnosed down to the component level — how did you isolate it? How do you use an electrical schematic to trace a failure? Give a concrete example. Tell us about a time you had to communicate bad news or a delay to a customer. Are you comfortable with cleanroom work, compressed shift schedules, overtime and on-call — how do you manage that? What do you know about Lam's products and the semiconductor equipment lifecycle?
• Review basic electronics, mechanical drawings, vacuum/RF subsystems and safe cleanroom practices before the interview. Prepare two or three concrete troubleshooting case studies with measurable outcomes. Be ready to discuss travel and shift flexibility honestly, and confirm customer-site assignment details with HR.
